Part of Cynaptic Therapy™. At Brain Bridge, taVNS (transcutaneous auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation) can also be delivered within Cynaptic Therapy™, our integrated protocol combining neuromodulation, neurofeedback and psychotherapy in one coordinated plan.

What it is & how it works

Non-invasive stimulation of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve via an ear-clip or electrode, intended to influence autonomic and brainstem-level regulation without any implant or incision.

How it's done

Typically administered as outpatient sessions of roughly 20–60 minutes, several times weekly over a defined course, using an ear-clip or electrode device under clinical supervision; some protocols also include supervised take-home use between visits.

Why Brain Bridge

taVNS fits Brain Bridge's model of layering a non-invasive, adjunctive modality onto condition-specific core care, offered where assessment indicates it and always framed around individualized, evidence-bounded expectations.

Evidence & safety

Considered adjunctive; used within a supervised treatment plan.

Related questions

No. Implanted VNS involves a surgically placed device on the vagus nerve in the neck; taVNS instead stimulates a branch of the vagus nerve at the ear through the skin, with no implant or incision, so the risk profile and typical indications differ.

Most people describe a mild tingling rather than pain. Reported side effects in safety reviews are generally mild and temporary, such as local skin irritation at the ear, headache, or dizziness, with serious adverse effects uncommon.
